01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Instead of naan, the curries come with chapati, whose satisfying thickness stood out to one diner. Pippara offers sets with combinations that can include chickpeas, the curry of the day, a bean and coconut curry, and the vegetable curry of the day. Vegetarian options are available. Some sets include both turmeric rice and chapati, giving diners two ways to enjoy the curries.
The snacks are more than a side dish, with options described as drawing on styles from across India. One diner singled out a hearty cabbage croquette; the menu also lists muthia, a spicy cabbage croquette. Other choices include pumpkin samosas and gare, spicy doughnuts made with urad dal. There is plenty to choose from alongside a curry.
For after the meal, some sets pair a drink—chai, lassi or cinnamon tea—with either ice cream or almond pudding. One diner enjoyed chai with ice cream, while another praised the sweet finish to the meal. It makes for a satisfying progression from curry to dessert.
Second-hand books line the restaurant, and one visitor noted a particular selection of books from Misuzu Shobo. In Kitashirakawa, Pippara brings together spiced dishes and a book-filled dining room.
